Millions of pounds has been spent on improving the quality of the library at Uxbridge recently. The local authority has now invested around £10 million in developing what its libraries have to offer.
Ray Puddifoot, leader of the council, has said:
“While other councils are closing libraries or reducing opening times, with the re-opening of Uxbridge Library we will have rebuilt or refurbished every one of ours – the only council in the country to do so.”
Now boasting a wide range of features over its six floors, Uxbridge Library has extensive floor space, computers that have Wi-Fi access, a space for the consumption of food and drink, and a local studies hub. In addition, the opening hours of the library have been extended, while readers will have the opportunity of using an archives service.
According to reports, there have been significant increases in visitor levels at other libraries in the vicinity, which have benefited from improvements in recent times. Nonetheless, it may well be that those behind the project use flyer printing in Ruislip Manor to draw attention to the new amenities. Library staff will be able to help visitors make the most of the facilities in question.
Uxbridge Library was closed during March 2013 so that the renovations could go ahead. Hillingdon Council then provided temporary premises for library services at The Pavilions
