The Willow Tree charity in Harefield has recently received the 2013 Charity of the Year Award courtesy of its partner British Airways (BA). Representatives of the charity, Dawn Palmer and Mark Palmer, picked up a prestigious award from celebrity Peter Andre. Mrs Palmer, volunteer coordinator, said:
“This partnership has been very successful to both BA and Willow Tree Centre. This year in particular there has been so much work to be carried out, and BA and other teams from local businesses have helped to maintain the centre to an excellent standard.”
Mrs Palmer was joined by her son Mark when she received the award, who has responsibility for the upkeep of the grounds at the centre. The Willow Tree may be located in Harefield, but if it needs extra publicity it would be convenient for the charity to use full colour printing in Ruislip Manor.
Nowadays, approximately 14,000 young people use the Willow Tree each year. These centre users come from a wide variety of youth groups. The needs of youngsters with physical disabilities have not been neglected. Princess Margaret opened the facilities back in 2000. The grounds are around 15 acres in extent and they are tended by a mixture of volunteers and apprentices from BA.
The centre itself benefits considerably from work performed by volunteers. These individuals are released by their companies for a short time period. According to Mrs Palmer, firms engaged in the scheme recently have included Tata Enterprises, Heathrow Airport and Canon Europe.
