Hillingdon Council has received detailed plans from Crossrail in relation to the proposed new station at Hayes & Harlington.
The local authority will consider the merits of a new design produced by the firm Bennetts Associates. The idea is that the new structure will be built on a site that is currently home to commercial property. This location is in close proximity to the station that could be replaced.
Crossrail believes that a new construction could have several advantages. Specific upgrades mentioned include four lifts, a footbridge and platform extensions.
If the plans go ahead, printing services in Ruislip Manor could be used to inform the public of the potential for easy access. Crossrail should be in operation by 2019.
Matthew White, a director for the company, has commented:
“A bright, spacious ticket hall and other major upgrades will make using the station a much better experience for the thousands who pass through every day.”
From 2019, local people should be able to get to central London without the necessity of changing. This may impact on journey times favourably.
Hillingdon Council and Crossrail have been engaged in joint working that aims to develop the environment in the immediate vicinity of the station. They have come up with specific plans that could be of assistance to pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, the intention to plant trees has been expressed.
