Pitshanger Lane has been named a winner at the Great British High Street contest.
The competition was hosted at Admiralty House within Whitehall. However, Pitshanger Lane is located in Ealing, which is not far
from Ruislip Manor. Businesses on the street that want to build on its recognition could use postcard printing in Ruislip Manor. John Martin, chairperson of Pitshanger Village Traders Association, told Get West London:
“It is an accolade long overdue after the battles of recent years when our unique and independent character has been threatened. Once again, though, we must thank everyone who has played their part in tweeting, posting and voting daily – we couldn’t have done it without them.”
Mr. Martin is an estate agent. He described how surprised he and his wife were when the victory of the street was announced. It beat competitors like Roman Road and Raynes Park High Street. The judges revealed that the campaign had impressed them. Further, they said that their decision had been made on the basis of unanimity.
Pam Foster, a resident of the high street for almost a decade, was full of praise for Mr. Martin. He led the whole campaign. Mrs. Foster said his friendliness and attitude to customer service fitted well with the character of the place. She said the street was lucky to have a variety of high quality restaurants and shops.
